Small Dollar Credit Programs Evaluation

Research funded by Center for Financial Services Innovation

The center collaborated with the Center for Financial Services Innovation on a project to analyze the impact of innovative small dollar credit demonstration programs offered by four financial institutions.

Project Overview

The UNC Center for Community Capital collaborated with the Center for Financial Services Innovation on a project to analyze the impact of innovative small dollar credit demonstration programs offered by four financial institutions.

The center provided research design, management and data analysis that helped CFSI evaluate the impact of a variety of small-dollar loan products.

The goal of the project was to gain a deeper, richer understanding of how these products are used by and impact the financial lives of the customers they are designed to serve.

The research report articulated eight strategies for designing and delivering high-quality, small-dollar loans based on insights generated from the data collected analyzed from the study.  Together, the strategies shed light on how financial service providers can design high-quality, small-dollar loans that offer value to providers and consumers alike.
